Bio
Shana Wittenwyler's visual sensibility is inspired by humor and humility. Shana freelances for the New York Times among other national and international publications. Her work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, New York Magazine, Rolling Stone Magazine and Fortune Magazine among others. Selected exhibitions include the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Canon Open Gallery, Tokyo; Centro de la Imagen, Mexico City; Amsterdam Tropenmuseum, Amsterdaman; the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters' Future of Rural Life and Farming conference in Madison, Wisconsin and Photo Midwest. Current projects include dislocated workers, the disappearance of small family farms from the landscape of Middle America and the Campaign Trail of 2008. Recent awards and exhibitions include American Photo's Images of the Year 2008, Phat Photo Magazine's International Portfolio Selection sponsored by Amana Photo Agency in Tokyo, Japan, an honorable mention for Jen Bekman Gallery's Hey Hot Shot! Summer 2007, national photography competition in New York and the group exhibition, In Praise of Physical Labor, curated by Woman Made Gallery in Chicago, Illinois. Shana received degrees in Art History and Classics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, studied photography at the Art Institute of Chicago and graduated from the International Center of Photography's Documentary & Photojournalism Program in New York.
